Campaign Blog

With four days to go before the election, it is most important to commit to voting, and to convince your friends and family that getting out to vote is the top priority and a right that must not be taken for granted.  Even though the opposition has run a weak campaign, the danger of not voting is that those motivated by something other than the best interest of Demarest and Bergen County will prevail.  Please go out and vote on Tuesday.

The Connelly Team

Bill Connelly's Blog

I have run into so many good people on the campaign trail as we walk around town and talk to people about all the great things going on in Demarest.  As a member of the Council for the past six years, I am very proud of all we have accomplished, from the Downtown Streetscape and new DPW complex to the bridge and culvert replacements and a comprehensive shared services program.  Everybody we talk to loves living in Demarest and it is gratifying to meet all the nice people and hear their thoughts on things happening in town.

The new lamp posts look great. They give the downtown a real 'old style' look.  I can't wait until they are turned on.  Same with the clock.  I am looking forward to Octoberfest this weekend.  I have always loved that event, the weather looks like it will be good and it is always a good time for kids and adults.

STEVE VERP'S BLOG

DEMAREST DAY was terrific and didn't cost the taxpayers a thing-all services were donated including the fireworks! Thanks to all the volunteers and Englewood Hospital.

Demarest lost a great citizen-Don Wiggers

While the firehouse was cited for several potential OSHA violations for the building structure, equipment condition and safety procedures, Chief Jim Bailey and the firefighters worked hard at addressing all of the issues and The Fire Department passed the OSHA inspection with flying colors. A job well done by the firemen.
Given the cut in state aid and mandate to limit real property tax increases, hats off to Melinda Iannuzzi, head of the Budget Committee for proposing and passing a fiscally conservative and prudent budget. The negotiating skills of Mayor Carroll and Bill Connelly and the concessions made by our loyal employees contributed to the budget process coming together, without sacrificing municipal services and without compromising the safety of our citizens.
Best, Steve
